The Heirs of Canaletto:
Fabio Mauroner and Emanuele Brugnoli in Venice, 1905-1940
The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute are pleased to announce an exhibition of thirty-five of the most important Venetian prints of the distinguished artists Fabio Mauroner (Udine, 1884-Venezia,1948) and Emanuele Brugnoli (Bologna, 1859-Venezia, 1944) from March until April, 2011.
The exhibition, The Heirs of Canaletto: Fabio Mauroner and Emanuele Brugnoli in Venice, 1905-1940 is drawn from prestigious local private collections. On the occasion of the opening, the curator, Dr. Eric Denker, will give an introductory lecture.
These prints demonstrate the continued strength of the Venetian view painting tradition that was initiated by Luca Carlevarijs and brought to its pinnacle by Canaletto in the eighteenth century. The exhibition is the first devoted to Mauroner in the United States in over seventy years, and the first to include the works of Brugnoli in Washington.
The exhibition is part of
Italy@150 and it coincides with the ongoing exhibition Canaletto and his Rivals at the
National Gallery of Art (February 20 through May 30) and is also part of
La Dolce DC, the citywide celebration of Italian culture.
