The Avalon Theater will screen for one night only the film From Subway with Love (Roman pro zeny) on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at 8 pm as part of the Lions of Czech Film Series.   

About the Film: From Subway with Love (Roman pro zeny)

This romantic comedy, based on the successful book of Michal Viewegh, presents the story of two women. Twenty-year-old Laura works as an editor at a woman's magazine. Her widowed mother Jana serves as a translator and interpreter. Both of them are looking for Mr. Right. Jana once lived through an intense relationship with a 'typical' Czech man; therefore, she tries to avoid another experience with a Czech man. She searches for her dream foreigner while warding off the advances of her good-natured neighbor Zemla. Her daughter Laura is disappointed after two failed relationships. Laura falls in love with forty-year-old Oliver. Little does she know that twenty years ago Oliver was the true love of her mother.          

Festivals and Awards (selection): The film won a Czech Lion Box Office Ward (2006), and was nominated for Czech Lions for Best Film Poster and Best Supporting Actress (2006)/ At the Pilsen Film Festival, the film won the Audience Award for Best Film (2005)
The film was produced by TV NOVA (Czech Republic)

About the Lions of Czech Film Series:
This marks the fifth year of collaboration with the Avalon Theatre to present the Lions of Czech Film Series. This film series gives the Washington, DC, community an opportunity to view Czech films that are popular hits in Europe and have received numerous honors and awards at film festivals. Most of the films have received the prestigious Czech Lion Award, the Czech equivalent of an Academy Award. All of the films have limited distribution in the United States. The Lions of Czech Film Series offers an invaluable opportunity to see the best of Czech cinema in the Nation's capital.
