It's 1863, 2 years after the unification of the Northern and Southern regions of Italy. In the Region of Basilicata Raffa Raffa, a bandit still loyal to the former King Francis II, is causing trouble in the city of Melfi.

The new central Italian government decides to send a group of Bersaglieri led by Captain Giordani to restore order in the city, and to deal with the fear and the silence of the local population.

With the help of Zita Maria, a woman kidnapped by Raffa Raffa, Captain Giordani is able to defeat the rebels.
