The economic integration of the Asia-Pacific region has been rapidly developing in recent years. There have been many regional frameworks created such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), East Asia summit (EAS), Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and more. There have also been intensive discussions concerning negotiations for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
Professor Shujiro Urata from Waseda University will examine the current state of the region in regards to the economic integration of the Asia-Pacific, including the ongoing TPP negotiations and Japan's foreign economic policy. Professor Urata graduated from Keio University in 1973 with a BA in Economics. He received his MA and PhD in Economics from Stanford University in 1976 and 1978, respectively. He specializes in international economics and the economics of development. He formerly served as a Research associate at the Brookings Insititution, an Economist for the World Bank, in research and advisory positions including senior adviser for the Indonesian government, and as a consultant for the World Bank, OECD, the Asian Development Bank, and the Japanese government. He currently serves as a Professor of Economics at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University.
