Celebrity Series Happy Hour Concert
Peabody Conservatory and Heifetz Institute cellist Amit Peled grew up as a devoted admirer of the legendary cellist and humanitarian Pablo Casals. Recently he became the recipient of a once-in-a-lifetime honor: He now performs on Casals’ 1733 Goffriller cello, presented to him by Casal’s widow. And now the Casals cello is coming to Staunton, VA! The second half of this program will be devoted to Amit Peled and pianist Stefan Petrov performing a recital of works that Casals often played on this very instrument. And if you’re sitting near the front, you might even detect a whiff of the late master’s legacy.
Also on the program: Works for two violins by composers Moritz Mozkowski and Sergei Prokofiev, and a selection from one of Mozart’s greatest chamber works: his String Quintet in G minor, K. 516.
The concert starts at 6:00 pm, after you’ve had the chance to sample some of the outstanding wines and cheeses from The Yelping Dog, Staunton’s wine, cheese, and gourmet shop.
