The 2015 ROK-US Summit:
Regional Context for Alliance Coordination
Scott Snyder
Senior Fellow for Korea Studies & Director of the Program on U.S.-Korea Policy Council on Foreign Relations
When: Thursday, October 1, 12 - 1:30 pm
Where: Korean Cultural Center, 2370 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington DC 20008
With President Park Geun-hye of the Republic of Korea scheduled to meet with President Obama this October in Washington, D.C., questions about the evolving role of the Korea-US Alliance will be front and center. Korea still faces an array of regional challenges, including relations with its neighbor to the North (despite the glimmer of cooperation that followed border violence this summer), ongoing efforts to improve ties with Japan, and walking a fine line with rising China. The Korea-US Alliance is a factor for each, both behind the scenes and in terms of optics. CFR Senior Fellow Scott Snyder will discuss the role of the alliance for each issue, and how it can live up to its full potential on all fronts.
