BONDED WITH NATURE
A solo exhibition by US artist John D. Antone
John D. Antone, "Glass House", 2012
US Premiere IDB Staff Association Art Gallery, 2015
Affection for nature is the defining theme of John D. Antone's sculptures. His unpretentious trees, branches, and twigs serve as a foundation to the houses and birds inhabiting them. Some of the houses, lovingly balanced on the branches reveal a delicate interconnectedness between man and nature; while others enveloped by the environment in an almost maternal way, reflect human existence in concordance with nature. Created by gathering branches through walks in the woods and then transformed into bronze, Antone’s sculptures invite us to reflect on the natural world and on our responsibility to live in harmony with the environment.
IDB Staff Association Art Gallery presents Bonded with Nature, a solo exhibition by US artist, sculptor, performer, lecturer, and curator John D. Antone.

In 1975, Antone had the opportunity to study at Walt Disney’s California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. While there he worked with John Baldessari, the world-renowned conceptual artist. Antone completed his Master of Arts in Sculpture at the University of Wisconsin in 1977, where he studied under Deborah Butterfield.
