Solas Nua's 2016 Theater Season
RISING
kicks off on December 14th at 7:00 PM with a free play reading of
by W.B. Yeats and Lady Gregory
The reading will be immediately followed by a talk-back discussion with the cast and with Irish author / Georgetown University Professor Emeritus, George O'Brien
Artistic Director Rex Daugherty shares that "Cathleen Ni Houlihan was, in many ways, the artistic ground zero of the 1916 Easter Uprising. Not only was it the play on stage at the time of the Uprising but the lead actor, Sean Connolly, was a captain in the Irish Citizen Army and was killed in battle.
"If Solas Nua had been around 100 years ago, we would have produced this piece, Cathleen Ni Houlihan. I'm particularly excited to bring this provocative play to life as we commemorate the centennial of that historic event.
"Solas Nua has always presented the best of contemporary Irish arts but this anniversary season presents a unique opportunity to look back at Ireland's history, with special attention focused on how the arts have helped shape the nation's voice and ideals."
The cast includes:
James Keegan, Thomas Keegan (Helen Hayes nomination), Nanna Ingvarsson (two-time Helen Hayes award winner), Brigid Cleary (Four time - Helen Hayes nominated actress), Alyssa Wilmoth-Keegan, and Megan Graves (Helen Hayes nomination).
The play reading series will be located in a private room at Kelly's Irish Times, 14 F St NW, next to Union Station
