This week and next, Scandinavia House has two new exciting performances added to our calendar: Sonica Sequence, an installment in Swedish musician and composer Lisa Nordström's ongoing series of site-specific music encounters with different global artists (May 3), and JFDR, a performance from the prolific Icelandic multi-instrumentalist indie sensation Jófríður Ákadóttir (May 11).
Sonica Sequence
Thursday, May 3, 8 PM
On May 3, we’re presenting a screening of the documentary Sonica Sequence followed by a live audio-visual performance with Swedish musician and composer Lisa Nordström. Sonic Sequence is Nordström’s ongoing project to meet international musicians and create improvised, site-specific sessions by staging unexpected musical encounters between people from different cultures in locations around the world.
JFDR
Friday, March 11, 7:30 PM
Prolific Icelandic songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jófríður Ákadóttir (of Samaris, Pascal Pinon, and Gangly), joins us for a performance of JFDR, a new project that incorporates a blend of cyclical guitar parts and soft minimal soundscapes, drawing from classical, folk, and electronic backgrounds. Her recently released debut album Brazil was recorded in New York in 2016 and co-produced by legendary multi instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily (Laurie Anderson, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Yoko Ono).
