FESTIVAL | Kids Euro Festival 2018

The Kids Euro Festival, a two-week long festival of European arts and culture from October 20 to November 4, presents numerous free cultural activities to children and their families from the DC metro area. We are excited to contribute with an introduction to classical music for children by the Berakovic_Karklina Duo at Kennedy Center’s Millennium State, as well as a theater performance entitled Wolf, an adaption of the century-old Little Red Riding Hood, performed by the Austrian children theater company Next Liberty at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center.

LECTURE & CONCERT | My (He)art in Exile

In association with the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, the ACF Washington presents an evening about the emigration and remigration of Austrian actors and directors as a result of the Austrian "Anschluss" with Nazi Germany. In line with the topic, there will be music by Erich Wolfgang Korngold and Arnold Schönberg, two world-famous Austrian exile composers, who emigrated to the US at the onset of Nazi rise to power some years earlier. The concert will be performed by the award-winning ensembleKarklina Trio and the lecture will held by Professor Evelyn Deutsch-Schreiner

LECTURE | Austria: The First Victim?

In commemoration of the "Anschluss" in March 1938 and the November pogroms (“Night of broken glass”) and on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Austrian law on art restitution, Secretary General of the Austrian National Fund Hannah Lessing will discuss historical facts, the ongoing official commemorative events in Austria in 2018, as well as the measures Austria has taken to address the dark past of the Nazi period.
This is an event organized by the Press and Information Service of the Austrian Embassy as part of their 2018 Austrian Lecture Series.

FILM SCREENING | Shadows of Shame

The ACF Washington is honored to present the screening of the documentary Shadows of Shame by Austrian filmmaker Sabina Zwitter-Grilc, which tells the story of three young women – a Carinthian Slovene, a Romni, and a woman of Jewish background – who want to find out why the suffering of their grandparents had such an impact on their lives and feelings. This is a journey from Austria to New York, in search for their roots.
