The Kids Euro Festival, a two-week long festival of European arts and culture until November 4, presents numerous free cultural activities to children and their families from the DC metro area. The ACF Washington is excited to contribute with a theater performance entitled Wolf, performed by the Austrian children theater company Next Liberty at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center on November 3.

Film|Neu, Washington’s annual festival of new films from Germany, Austria and Switzerland will explore challenges that come with the passage of time, navigating identity and personal relationships in an increasingly globalized world. Austria will be presented with the two films L’Animale and The Migrumpies as well as four shorts at the screeningNew Short Films from Germany, Austria & Switzerland on November 3.

The ACF Washington is thrilled to partner for the first time with the non-profit organization Words Beats & Life and venture into new territory for a unique evening full of words, beats and sounds. Juxtaposed to the two local Hip-Hop poetry artists Raquel Ra Brown andAlan W. King will be the poetry-slammer Christoph Steiner, spitting some Austrian poetry, accompanied by four young Austrian musicians.

The ACF Washington is looking forward to an encounter between two young writers and their books on Austrian-American border crossings and its impact on family history, especially from a female point of view. The Austrian author Theodora Bauer and the American journalist and writer Sarah Wildman will read from and discuss their works.

The ACF Washington is delighted to present a concert by the young Austrian pianist Mitra Kotte. Her program will be a potpourri of classical and romantic pieces as well as contemporary compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Sofia Gubaidulina, Robert Schumann and Franz Liszt.

Die Wandervögel is a one-of-a-kind musical quartet of versatile instrumental and vocal performers, rekindling old, nearly-forgotten songs from the 17th to the 20th century of German, Austrian and Yiddish origins. The ACF Washington is delighted to welcome the four young Austrian musicians to Washington, DC, and to fill our halls with their poetic tunes.

The young Austrian organist Stefan Donner will play an organ recital at the Washington National Cathedral. The program will feature works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Louis Vierne, Franz Schmidt and Joseph Rheinberger.

WOMEN
One of the objectives of the ACF Washington is to create a room for and draw attention to female artists. Within this framework and in preparation for the reading and discussion on the topic “Family, Generations & Migration: The Austrian-American Experience” on November 19, we are featuring texts by the Austrian author Theodora Bauer and American writer Sarah Wildman, who reflect on womanhood and women’s roles in society.
