The Lab Global Division
The Global Division is a meticulously crafted online educational experience designed to cater to the distinctive educational needs of children with language-based learning disparities, such as dyslexia and dysgraphia. Our online learning model is constructed with clear intention and unwavering purpose, ensuring every student feels truly seen and valued, transforming the educational environment from one of just surving into one of thriving success.
At the Lab School Global Division, we recognize that the challenges our students face in traditional academic settings are not reflective of their intellectual capabilities but are derivative of their unique learning paradigms. Consequently, we tailor our pedagogical approaches to match their distinctive learning needs, incorporated in our daily synchronous online classes. And of equal importance, we provide a place where our students can experience a sense of belonging and the feeling of learning alongside peers who learn just like they do!
The embodiment of personal relationships amongst teachers and students is foundational to our teaching ethos, enabling a supportive and interactive online learning environment. Our highly skilled educators, leveraging their innovative and research based teaching methodologies, ensure these relationships are woven into the fabric of the online learning experience, facilitating a transformative educational journey.
How does the Global Division Work?
The Global Division is divided into two “schools”:
The Lower School for ages 8-11 (roughly grades 3rd-5th)
The Middle School for ages 11-14 (roughly grades 6th – 8th)
Students work synchronously with a skilled and experienced teacher in their core academic classes, Reading, Writing, and Math, which meet daily for sixty minutes each weekday.
Students work in small groups to allow for individualized instruction while providing a sense of belonging in an online environment. Instruction is focused on academics in addition to the development of a toolbox of technology skills and self-advocacy strategies to enhance success in any educational setting.
Electives, History, Science, Visual Art, and Lab’s cornerstone, Academic Club classes are also offered and meet synchronously several times a week.
Why choose Lab’s Global Division?
Our Global Division provides a stable academic setting which creates continuity in educational experiences for children who might otherwise experience a disruption in their school experience. Families can feel secure in their educational decision give Lab’s decades of experience in the learning disparities teaching space.
Inspired Faculty
Our teachers have the freedom to create, experiment, and challenge themselves while engaging our students. One moment they may be giving a one-to-one reading lesson and the next, they may be teaching the rites of mummification to young gods and goddesses in an Academic Club.
Our teaching team not only creatively engages with our students, they are trained in and utilize teaching techniques that are backed by research. They are able to quantify student progress while qualitatively “tell the story” of our students’ growth keeping caregivers informed every step of the way.
Consistency
The Global Division provides consistency in ways that truly matter for our students. A consistent, safe learning environment is crucial as it fosters a sense of security and predictability for our learners. Additionally, our teachers know that creating a positive learning atmosphere is conducive to students feeling encouraged to participate and interact.
And because consistency is key is helping develop critical executive functioning skills, our students can go deeper in their learning because they do not have to expend valuable learning energy trying to understand how a new school program works. This stability is vital as it enables students to engage in the learning process more effectively, permitting focus and concentration greatly minimizing the interference of stress or anxiety.
